Residents say they hope the upgrades will spark long-term growth long after the World Cup crowds head home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">For many who call the Third Ward home, the anticipation isn\u2019t just about hosting the world\u2019s most-watched sporting event, it\u2019s about what the improvements could mean for daily life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI think it\u2019s amazing,\u201d said Third Ward resident Justin Reedy, reacting to the incoming investments.<\/p>\n<p>Green spaces, walkability, and new soccer opportunities<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The funding will support two major initiatives: The Green Corridor and Grow the Game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Green Corridor aims to transform public spaces by expanding green areas, adding shaded walkways, and improving mobility for both residents and visitors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThe Green Corridor will transform public space and connect communities by expanding green space, creating shaded walkways, and improving mobility,\u201d one project leader explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Meanwhile, Grow the Game focuses on boosting youth sports access across Houston.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cGrow the Game will build and renovate soccer fields around Houston and expand free club soccer access for all kids,\u201d organizers said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Interactive maps and trail enhancements are also part of the plan\u2014improvements neighbors say they\u2019ve been requesting for years as they advocate for a safer, more beautiful, more walkable community.<\/p>\n<p>Community voices: Hope for long-term impact<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">For residents, the investment is more than cosmetic\u2014it\u2019s a sign of belief in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWhen you invest into the community, the community reinvests back into the funders,\u201d one neighbor shared. \u201cConvenience is key, and for them to invest that amount of money and opportunity for the people is beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Still, many hope the momentum won\u2019t end with the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIf one million dollars can add such value to this trail, imagine what much more can do when that comes from these FIFA games,\u201d Reedy said.<\/p>\n<p>Houston\u2019s World Cup boost<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A recent study shows Houston is expected to see $372 million in visitor spending during the excitement of the 2026 World Cup\u2014money residents hope will help sustain improvements for years to come.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">As construction begins, Third Ward neighbors say they\u2019re ready to welcome the world, and even more ready to see their community thrive.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2025 by KPRC Click2Houston &#8211;
