U.S. Rep. Julie Johnson<\/a> on Friday filed to run for the Democratic primary nomination for Dallas County-anchored District 33.<\/p>\n

The Farmers Branch Democrat currently represents District 32. That district was radically redrawn this summer to cut out much of Dallas County. It now extends deep into East Texas and favors a Republican candidate.<\/p>\n

The midterm primary election will be Tuesday, March 3.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday allowed Texas\u2019 new congressional map<\/a> to remain in place, reversing an injunction by a lower court. That prompted Johnson to make a final decision about her political future.<\/p>\n

\u201cTexas-33 is home to many families, small businesses, and neighborhoods that I have been proud to represent over the years,\u201d Johnson wrote in a statement. \u201cI\u2019m running in TX-33 because these communities need someone who shows up, listens, and never stops fighting for them\u2013no matter how the lines are drawn.\u201d<\/p>\n

U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, currently represents District 33, which was also redrawn this summer. He\u2019s expected to run in District 30. That district is represented by U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Dallas, who is expected to run for Senate and has scheduled an announcement for Monday <\/a>afternoon.<\/p>\n

Johnson is serving her first term in Congress. <\/p>\n
