The more than 20,000-square-foot facility sits along the Dallas North Tollway and strengthens the organization’s long-standing presence in Dallas-Fort Worth. After the first reference, the region will be referred to as DFW.

A Growing Need For Brain Injury Expertise

Plano’s population growth and its proximity to neighboring states have positioned the city as a key location for post-acute neurological care. According to CEO David Harrington, the expansion reflects both rising demand and the organization’s mission to improve outcomes for people recovering from traumatic and acquired brain injuries.

“We are increasing our footprint in Texas to meet the high demand for our facilities and individualized services so we can bring high-quality post-acute care to North Texas,” Harrington said. “This expansion allows us to strengthen our culture of excellence and compassion.”

The Centre for Neuro Skills has treated traumatic brain injury, stroke and related neurological conditions for more than 40 years. Several Texas clinics, including one in Irving, recently earned recognition from the Behavioral Health Center of Excellence for excellence in applied behavior analysis. The new Plano clinic builds on that foundation and expands access to specialized services throughout DFW.

Inside The New Plano Clinic

The clinic is designed to serve inpatient, outpatient, day treatment and residential patients. Therapy spaces support vision rehabilitation, neurobehavior programs, cognitive retraining, speech therapy, and physical and occupational therapy. Clinicians use advanced tools such as the ZeroG Gait and Balance System and the Bioness Integrated Therapy System to improve mobility, balance and motor function. Counseling for patients and families is an integral part of care, and the clinic offers opportunities to participate in research focused on brain injury and stroke recovery.

Photo: Morgan Essien M.S., CCC-SLP, CBIS, CCM, Director of Rehabilitation for the clinic

The Plano team is led by Morgan Essien, director of rehabilitation, who holds a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders and is certified in brain injury and case management. Essien joined the organization in 2019 as a speech-language pathologist, then transitioned into clinical case management. Her experience in outpatient rehabilitation, pediatrics and acute care supports her holistic approach to patient recovery.

Residential services are overseen by Daisy Palafox, residential manager, a licensed occupational therapist with experience in both acute and inpatient rehabilitation. Palafox brings a strong patient-centered focus to helping individuals regain independence.

Photo: Daisy Palafox, MOT, OTR/L, Residential Manager

Why Brain Injury Treatment Matters

Brain injury continues to affect families nationwide. The Brain Injury Association of America reports that 2.9 million people visit emergency departments every year for traumatic brain injury. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that more than 795,000 people experience a stroke annually.

In Texas, the numbers are significant. An estimated 144,000 Texans sustain a traumatic brain injury every year, and more than 381,000 live with long-term disability as a result. Stroke remains a leading cause of serious disability statewide. The Centre for Neuro Skills aims to meet this growing need through structured rehabilitation and a dedicated clinical team.

Learn More

The new Plano clinic is located at 1640 Dallas Parkway near major roads, airports and accommodations.
