Meghan Markle\u2019s estranged father, Thomas Markle, has had to have his left leg amputated below the knee.<\/p>\n

His son, Thomas Markle Jr., told The Daily Mail<\/a> that the elder Markle went into surgery on Wednesday in the Philippines.<\/p>\n

According to Thomas Jr., the 81-year-old underwent the procedure after a blood clot cut off circulation to his left leg, causing it to turn black.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly. I took him to a local hospital and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated,\u201d Thomas Jr. told the outlet.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cThere was no option. I was told the leg had to be removed and it was a case of life or death.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thomas Sr. is expected to undergo additional surgery to remove a blood clot from his left thigh, and doctors are \u201cextremely concerned\u201d about his health, according to his son.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of his doctors said the next two or three days are critical. His left leg has been removed below the knee. They were worried about infection setting in \u2014 sepsis or gangrene. The flesh was black and dying,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cThere was no option given. It was either, \u2018We have to operate now and remove the leg, or he may die.\u2019 It was a life-threatening situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thomas Jr. and Samantha Markle are from Thomas Markle\u2019s first marriage and half siblings to Meghan Markle.<\/p>\n

Meghan has been estranged from her father since her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. He allegedly staged paparazzi photos in the lead up to their royal wedding, something Meghan addressed in the 2022 Netflix series \u201cHarry and Meghan.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cH and I called my dad. I said, \u2018They\u2019re saying you\u2019re taking money from the tabloids to stage photos. Is this true?\u2019 He says, \u2018No,\u2019\u201d she said in the episode, per Us Weekly<\/a>. \u201cAnd on that call, I\u2019d said to him, \u2018Look. If they can\u2019t stop this story, then it\u2019s going to come out tomorrow, so why don\u2019t we send someone right now to your house to get you out of there now because if that\u2019s the case, your house will be swarmed by media. We\u2019ll get you out.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cHe said, \u2018No. I have things I need to do.\u2019 And it felt really cagey. I was like, \u2018It doesn\u2019t make sense.\u2019 And when we hung up, I looked at H.
