San Antonio Spurs announcer Jacob Tobey made the bold decision to experience smelling salts for the first time while on the air to cover Wednesday night\u2019s game in Orlando.<\/p>\n

During a courtside pre-game discussion<\/a> between Tobey and broadcast partner Sean Elliot, Tobey clutched a small bottle of ammonium carbonate \u2014 the compound most commonly referred to as smelling salts \u2014 which is popular among professional athletes, as the jarring sensation in the nostrils make one more alert.<\/p>\n

The substance is also commonly used to wake up an unconscious person.<\/p>\n

Before Tobey took a whiff, he admitted that he was nervous and had second thoughts.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m nervous,\u201d he told Elliott. \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m gonna do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elliott, however, insisted and told Tobey he would \u201clove\u201d to see him do smelling salts on-air. Tobey obliged, and his head immediately shot back in response to the strong sensation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhoa!\u201d Tobey said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told you!\u201d Elliott said with a laugh. \u201cThat\u2019s why I didn\u2019t do it!<\/p>\n

A clearly dazed Tobey then revealed it was the first time he\u2019d ever sniffed smelling salts in his life.<\/p>\n
