At State of Grace<\/a>, Chris meets up with an old friend, chef Ryan Lachaine, who\u2019s recently taken the helm at the restaurant. He\u2019s already making his presence known with some additions to the menu while respecting what people already love about the restaurant. <\/p>\n

Among the newcomers on the menu, fish and chips. But wait, it\u2019s not your classic pub style rendition. Ryan\u2019s making it with a thick, crispy haddock filet and replacing tartar sauce with a delicate beurre blanc. It\u2019s a must try. <\/p>\n

Ryan also brought a cult favorite from his days at Riel: the famous butter burgers, now with caramelized onions (from the restaurant French onion soup process) and sauced with butter. <\/p>\n

Of course, State of Grace\u2019s beautiful oyster bar still steals the show the moment you walk in. In Chris\u2019 opinion, it\u2019s truly one of the best places for a Friday lunch in Houston.<\/p>\n

A few miles away, Credence<\/a> feels like the start of something big. Levi Goode, carrying the heritage of one of Houston\u2019s legendary restaurant families, has created a concept that\u2019s entirely his own. <\/p>\n

The concept is rooted in South Texas food culture shaped by ingredients and traditions that reflect the region. The menu includes nods to cattle drive and meat market classics like parisa and pan de campo alongside Gulf seafood and steaks from Texas ranches.<\/p>\n

Using live fire whenever possible, the dishes give that deep, soulful flavor you can only get from wood and smoke. Chris says you can actually taste the Texas history here. <\/p>\n
