AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Randall Lady Raiders basketball team is working through their non-district schedule while building on last year\u2019s success, despite having no seniors on the roster.<\/p>\n
The team is relying on leadership from players who gained varsity experience last season as they navigate new roles and responsibilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey got a lot of minutes on the varsity last year, but they have new roles this year,\u201d said head coach Brooke Walthall. \u201cDefinitely in that transition of like learning how to be a leader and not to be a great player. But, I just love how they\u2019re exacting every day and growing and getting better.\u201d<\/p>\n
Junior Kennah Thomas said the younger team is focusing on accountability and development.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like this year we\u2019re talking a lot more…like we\u2019re holding each other accountable a lot more since we\u2019re younger,\u201d Thomas said. \u201cWe\u2019re shaping the girls for when we leave, so I feel like we\u2019re just helping them grow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tournament results<\/p>\n
The Lady Raiders competed in the Granbury Tournament over the weekend, finishing with a 2-3 record against tough competition.<\/p>\n
The team defeated Midlothian and Granbury while falling to Byron Nelson, Abilene Wylie and Weatherford.<\/p>\n
The Lady Raiders return to action Tuesday, hosting Frenship at 6:00 p.m. CST.<\/p>\n
