{"id":80504,"date":"2025-12-08T16:48:25","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T16:48:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/80504\/"},"modified":"2025-12-08T16:48:25","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T16:48:25","slug":"judge-parrish-says-jason-corley-removed-from-county-commissioners-pct-2-position-after-congressional-campaign-announcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/80504\/","title":{"rendered":"Judge Parrish says Jason Corley removed from County Commissioners Pct. 2 position after congressional campaign announcement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish announced the automatic resignation of Precinct 2 County Commissioner Jason Corley Monday morning. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to Judge Parrish, Corley expressed intent in running for Congress before making his official campaign announcement on Dec. 2. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In Texas, the <a href=\"https:\/\/statutes.capitol.texas.gov\/Docs\/CN\/htm\/CN.16\/CN.16.65.htm\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/statutes.capitol.texas.gov\/Docs\/CN\/htm\/CN.16\/CN.16.65.htm\">resign-to-run law<\/a> states an officeholder with more than a year and 30 days left in their current term must automatically resign before filing to run for another office. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In November, Corley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2025\/11\/12\/jason-corley-announces-exploratory-committee-texas-19th-congressional-district\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2025\/11\/12\/jason-corley-announces-exploratory-committee-texas-19th-congressional-district\/\">formed an exploratory committee to weigh public support of a congressional campaign<\/a>. Judge Parrish said Corley used a \u2018Corley for Congress\u2019 email, as well as graphics and a PO box, indicating a run for Congress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Because Corley\u2019s actions were before the one year and 30 day mark, Judge Parrish declared Corley\u2019s seat vacant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">To fill the vacancy, Mark Meurer, of Slaton, was sworn into office by Judge Parrish during Monday\u2019s County Commissioner meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">This is a developing story; check back for updates<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 KCBD.
