ARLINGTON, TX \u2014 Texas history is putting on its Sunday best this January when \u201cAMON! The Ultimate Texan,\u201d the acclaimed one-man play about legendary Fort Worth newspaperman Amon G. Carter, rides into Theatre Arlington for a four-show limited engagement, Jan. 9\u201311, 2026. The award-winning production has been staged nearly 70 times across the Lone Star State, delighting audiences from Panhandle towns to big-city theaters.<\/p>\n

Written by Dallas Morning News columnist Dave Lieber and starring Kelvin Dilks as the larger-than-life Amon Carter, this award-winning play celebrates the wit, vision and unstoppable spirit of the man often called \u201cMr. Fort Worth.\u201d Through quick-fire humor, powerful storytelling and a few of Carter\u2019s own tall tales, audiences meet a Texas original who refused to think small \u2014 about his city, his state or himself.<\/p>\n

Carter founded the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, launched WBAP radio and television, and spent decades selling Fort Worth and West Texas to anyone who would listen \u2014 and quite a few who wouldn\u2019t. Lieber\u2019s script, based on years of research and rare archival material, captures Carter\u2019s trademark charm, mischief and his unshakable determination to make his hometown shine.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmon Carter was bold, funny and relentless \u2014 and he built an empire by believing in Texas,\u201d says playwright Dave Lieber. \u201cWe created this play to show how one man\u2019s vision and humor helped define an entire region. Directed by Connie Sanchez, \u201cAMON!
