WASHINGTON \u2014 Outspoken Rep. Jasmine Crockett jumped into the Texas Senate race on Monday, shaking up the Democratic primary hours before the filing deadline.<\/p>\n
The far-left firebrand<\/a> will challenge Texas state Rep. James Talarico (D-Austin) for Sen. John Cornyn\u2019s (R-Texas) seat in the upper chamber, announcing her campaign the day congressional candidates had to formally file paperwork.\u00a0<\/p>\n In her campaign launch video, Crockett doesn\u2019t say a word<\/a> as the camera holds steady on her face. Rather, it stars the voice of President Trump calling Crockett the \u201cnew star of the Democrat Party\u201d and a \u201cvery low IQ person.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cTexas, let\u2019s win this thing,\u201d she wrote. <\/p>\n Republicans were gleeful about her entry into the race, dubbing her too far left for the state and more beatable in a general election. <\/p>\n \u201cI think she wins the Democratic primary, and she\u2019s the worst possible candidate they could have in Texas,\u201d Cornyn said, per Fox News<\/a>. \u201cShe\u2019s unelectable.\u201d<\/p>\n The race has already proved to be a hot one \u2014\u00a0Talarico previously made headlines<\/a>\u00a0for racking up a record $6.2 million in the first three weeks after announcing his campaign in September.<\/p>\n Rep. AP<\/p>\n The addition of a national name like Crockett\u2019s adds new energy to Democrats\u2019 long-shot bid to flip the state blue as Cornyn has held the Senate seat since 2002. He already faces a competitive primary against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Rep. Wesley Hunt.<\/p>\n Crockett, 44, jumped into the race just hours after ex-Rep. Colin Allred ditched his own Democratic bid and decided to try clawing his way back into the House instead.<\/p>\n She\u2019ll face off in a March 3 primary against Talarico, a former teacher-turned-rising liberal star whose viral rants against GOP moves like private school vouchers and Ten Commandments-in-classroom mandates have caught national attention.\u00a0<\/p>\n Republican rule of the Senate hinges on ensuring Democrats don\u2019t pick up another four seats in the chamber.<\/p>\n Working in their favor, most of the seats up for reelection belong to senators of states that Trump won in 2024.<\/p>\n Crockett has garnered national headlines for her abrasive personality<\/a>, both with fellow lawmakers in congressional hearings and behind closed doors, notably laughing off accusations in August that she was a no-show boss from hell.<\/p>\n Texas state Rep. AP<\/p>\n Multiple former staffers and aides told The Post that month that the Dallas-area rep is \u201crude,\u201d a \u201cdiva,\u201d \u201cscreams\u201d at employees and rarely comes into the office.<\/p>\n \u201cShe is focused almost exclusively on being an influencer, not a member of Congress,\u201d a source said at the time.<\/p>\n Confronted with the reporting, Crockett told CBS at the time that the criticism meant \u201cthat I have arrived, honey.\u201d<\/p>\n Crockett has frequently sparred with Republicans \u2014 including President Trump who has branded her a \u201clow IQ\u201d person. Last week, it was revealed that\u00a0Crockett<\/a>\u00a0owes more than $3,000 on an unpaid lien against her luxury condominium in Dallas, which she \u201ccontinues to fail and refuse\u201d to pay off, records show.<\/p>\n
