{"id":82154,"date":"2025-12-09T20:35:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T20:35:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/82154\/"},"modified":"2025-12-09T20:35:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T20:35:10","slug":"renovated-tom-muehlenbeck-recreation-center-reopens-in-plano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/82154\/","title":{"rendered":"Renovated Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center reopens in Plano"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPlano\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plano.gov\/1478\/Tom-Muehlenbeck-Recreation-Center\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center<\/a> has officially reopened after an 11-month closure, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/content.civicplus.com\/api\/assets\/45580462-1201-49c2-8a0d-9fadcb594719?cache=1800\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">news release<\/a> from city officials.<\/p>\n<p>The center <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/plano-north\/government\/2025\/01\/27\/plano-recreation-center-closed-improvements-planned\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">closed Jan. 7<\/a> to allow for major renovations.<\/p>\n<p>The details<\/p>\n<p>Plano <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plano.gov\/749\/Parks-and-Recreation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Parks and Recreation<\/a> celebrated the project\u2019s completion with a grand reopening Dec. 4, and regular operations resumed at 5 a.m. the following day.<\/p>\n<p>The city of Plano spent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plano.gov\/1946\/2021-Bond-Program\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$15.9 million<\/a> on updates to the center, including:<\/p>\n<p>New children\u2019s pool play structureNew pool deckUpdated locker roomsReplaced heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning system and main sewer lineResurfaced track and gym floorNew cardio equipmentTom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center has the most foot traffic of any recreation facility in the Plano system, and the improvements represent the largest renovation to the center since its opening in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a facility that welcomes over 400,000 guests each year, we know how much our community values the Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center, and we are committed to ensuring it is well maintained,\u201d Plano Parks and Recreation Director Ron Smith said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/plano-tx.civilspace.io\/en\/projects\/tom-muehlenbeck-recreation-center-renovation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">statement online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The big picture<\/p>\n<p>Voters approved funds for the center\u2019s renovation as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plano.gov\/1946\/2021-Bond-Program\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2021 bond referendum<\/a>. The 2021 bond also provided $231 million for street improvements and $81.9 million for improvements to parks and recreational facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Other projects funded by the 2021 bond, including renovations to Longhorn Park and concrete repairs across various roads, are <a href=\"https:\/\/content.civicplus.com\/api\/assets\/a9d03c5f-c269-439b-bb98-ddd551f8631f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">still underway<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s next<\/p>\n<p>Plano voters approved an additional $647.9 million in spending during the <a href=\"https:\/\/plano-tx.civilspace.io\/en\/projects\/2025-bond-referendum\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">May 3 bond election<\/a>.
