He suggests every city must minimize its tax burden, and he says this review will make local governments more accountable. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Back in September, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2025\/09\/09\/lubbock-city-council-approves-budget-tax-rate\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2025\/09\/09\/lubbock-city-council-approves-budget-tax-rate\/\">the Lubbock City Council approved a property tax rate above the no-new-revenue rate with a five to two vote<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">It forecast raising payments for the average homeowner by about $15 a year, but supporters said it would meet the city\u2019s needs for maintenance and operations. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Mayor Mark McBrayer and District 3 Councilman David Glasheen wanted the lower rate and called for cuts to the city\u2019s spending. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The city publishes comprehensive and popular financial audits each year on its <a href=\"https:\/\/ci.lubbock.tx.us\/departments\/finance\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/ci.lubbock.tx.us\/departments\/finance\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 KCBD.
