A familiar face on ABC 13 Houston’s<\/a> weather team is signing off. After seven years at the station, meteorologist Rachel Briers<\/a> announced Monday that she’s leaving TV news<\/a> to become a stay-at-home mom.<\/p>\n

“I’ve made lifelong friends here, and I’m endlessly thankful,” Briers wrote on social media, adding that Houston has given her “an incredible community.” She thanked viewers for welcoming her so warmly and trusting her to bring them the weather every day.<\/p>\n

Briers made clear she’s not stepping away from weather entirely. “Don’t worry-my weather journey isn’t ending!” she said.\u00a0 And, she teased, “You might even see me out storm chasing before long!”<\/p>\n

“Thank you all so much for inviting me into your homes,” she wrote. She hopes to continue being a source of reliable weather information-“and maybe a smile”-while she enjoys “much needed hugs and time” with her two daughters. She encouraged Houstonians to stop and say hello if they see her out and about.<\/p>\n

Briers’ last day at ABC 13 is Tuesday, according to local\u00a0media blogger Mike McGuff<\/a>. She joined the station in December 2018 and leaves as a three-time Emmy Award winner. During her years forecasting Houston weather, she also welcomed her two daughters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before ABC 13, Briers worked for\u00a0NewsWest 9 KWES in Midland-Odessa and KLBK in Lubbock. The Plano native graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in atmospheric sciences and interned at WFAA in Dallas\u2013Fort Worth and KBTX in Bryan-College Station.<\/p>\n

Her departure comes during a period of transition for ABC 13. Longtime anchor Melanie Lawson<\/a> will retire in January after 43 years on the air, and reporter Shannon Ryan<\/a> left the station last month after 2.5 years to become a Washington, D.C.-based correspondent for Spectrum News.<\/p>\n
