SAN ANTONIO \u2013 San Antonio philanthropist Harvey E. Najim has partnered with the San Antonio Food Bank for three holiday distribution events this week. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been here every year for many years, and every time I come, I get all excited again because I know that today over 1500 families won\u2019t have to worry about food for their families or children,\u201d Najim said. <\/p>\n
The distributions are targeted to San Antonio-area school districts that serve low-income households. <\/p>\n
\u201cHarvey Najim is a great champion for children in our community, and his support this December will help ensure no child will go to bed hungry,\u201d said Eric Cooper, president and CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank. \u201cHarvey\u2019s support this December is unprecedented in the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cooper said the government shutdown is still affecting people in San Antonio and the San Antonio Food Bank\u2019s stock. <\/p>\n
Donations and large events like on Wednesday can help families stretch the nonprofit\u2019s dollars through the holiday season, Cooper added. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen families are making that choice of \u2018Do I provide Christmas gifts for my kids, or do I put food on the table?\u2019 That shouldn\u2019t be the dilemma,\u201d Cooper said. <\/p>\n
The first mega distribution took place at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Northside ISD\u2019s Gustafson Stadium, located at 7001 Culebra Road. <\/p>\n
Students from several Northside ISD schools volunteered, including many from several sports teams. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe get in a workout with all this lifting,\u201d said some members of a high school baseball team. \u201cIt\u2019s amazing, it just makes us feel better\u201d. <\/p>\n
Pre-registration is required for these events, so if you can\u2019t make it on Wednesday, you can pre-register for the following dates:<\/p>\n
Dec. 12 – 8:30 a.m. at 7800 Kindred Street.<\/p>\n
Dec. 17 – 8:30 a.m. at the Alamodome.<\/p>\n
