SAN ANTONIO \u2013 UPDATE on 12\/9\/2025: The Bexar County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office has identified the 4-year-old boy killed in a shooting on Monday at a Northwest Side home. <\/p>\n
The medical examiner identified the child as Josiah Cabral. His cause and manner of death have not yet been released. <\/p>\n
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. at a home in the 10000 block of Windstone Creek. <\/p>\n
Cabral was pronounced dead at a local hospital, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said on Monday. <\/p>\n
Cabral\u2019s mother and father were detained at the scene for further questioning, McManus said. <\/p>\n
On Tuesday, Northside Independent School District Assistant Superintendent of Communications Barry Perez said that Cabral was a student at Henry Steubing Elementary School. <\/p>\n

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I write to share some very difficult news with our school community. On Monday, December 8th, we experienced the tragic loss of one of our young Steubing Elementary students. This is a very difficult time for the student\u2019s family, and it is a loss that touches all of us\u2014our students, our staff, and the community as a whole. Our thoughts are with the family during this heartbreaking time. <\/p>\n
To help our students and staff process this tragedy, we are utilizing the NISD Counseling Department\u2019s Grief Response Team. This team of professional school counselors will provide comprehensive support services to anyone who is struggling.<\/p>\n
We are a close-knit community, and we will get through this difficult time together. Thank you for your understanding, compassion, and support.<\/p>\n

ORIGINAL STORY: A 4-year-old boy has died after a shooting at a Northwest Side home, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said at a news conference Monday.<\/p>\n
Officers responded to the home around 3 p.m. in the 10000 block of Windstone Creek. McManus said police received two calls \u2014 one from inside the home and one from outside the home \u2014 both reporting a gunshot.<\/p>\n
The father was rendering first aid to the boy when officers arrived, McManus said. The 4-year-old was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

The mother, father and child were the only people in the house when the shooting occurred. McManus said a handgun was involved, but additional details were unclear.<\/p>\n
The father, who is in his 50s, and the mother, who is in her 40s, were both detained at the scene, McManus said.<\/p>\n
Neighbor Adriana Almarac described the situation as \u201cnerve-wracking.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s so awful and sad,\u201d said Victoria Downing, another neighbor. \u201cso just hope that police get down to the bottom of what happened to this 4-year-old.\u201d<\/p>\n
Additional information was not immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
