The San Antonio Food Bank is sharing more than 4 million pounds of produce this season to create a happier holiday for those in need. <\/p>\n

The hunger-fighting nonprofit is giving out the produce and other food this week during a series of distribution campaigns aimed at ensuring no San Antonio child or senior will experience food insecurity during the holidays, Chief Philanthropy Officer Michael Guerra told the\u00a0Current. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the difference between a hungry holiday and a happy holiday for so many,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n

The Food Bank received its record-high donation total of 4 million pounds of produce as part of its 14th annual Harvest from the Heart campaign, according to Guerra. He credited local grocer H-E-B and its produce vendors for stepping up their holiday contributions. <\/p>\n

On three dates this week, the Food Bank also partnered with\u00a0local philanthropist Harvey Najim<\/a>\u00a0for mobile food distributions aimed at local school districts that serve low-income families.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the Convoy of Hope provided food boxes to the Department of Human Services\u2019 senior centers across the city. The campaign is part of the Project HOPE, which offers monthly food boxes to around 14,000 older citizens on low incomes.<\/p>\n

This Wednesday and Friday, along with Thursday Dec. 17, the Food Bank and Najim will hold the Najim Mobile Mega Holiday Food Distribution, providing 100 pounds of food per household to families in need of assistance. The distributions will be held at NISD\u2019s Gustafson Stadium, South San Antonio ISD\u2019s stadium area and the Alamodome.<\/p>\n

The Food Bank is\u00a0seeking volunteers<\/a>\u00a0for its mobile distributions, according officials with the organization. Pre-registration is also required to receive assistance from the distribution, and families\u00a0can sign up online<\/a>.<\/p>\n
