Thousands are expected to flood downtown Dallas on Saturday to protest<\/a> the policies of the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

Dallas is one of some 2,500 cities across the country with planned \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests<\/a>. In North Texas, protests are planned in Fort Worth, Plano, Denton and Frisco<\/a>, among others.<\/p>\n

The latest round of protests against President Donald Trump<\/a> comes as anger has grown over the deployment of National Guard troops<\/a> in U.S. cities, the ongoing government shutdown<\/a> and crackdown on immigration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president thinks his rule is absolute,\u201d the No Kings website says. \u201cBut in America, we don\u2019t have kings and we won\u2019t back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty.\u201d<\/p>\n

In June<\/a>, millions of protesters around the U.S. turned up for No Kings protests. Organizers say they expect a bigger turnout Saturday.<\/p>\n

Participating organizations include the American Civil Liberties Union, American Federation of Teachers, Human Rights Campaign, Indivisible and MoveOn.<\/p>\n

Republicans have accused Democrats of keeping the government closed to rally support for the protests. On Fox News<\/a>, House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana, called the protest a \u201chate America rally\u201d and \u201cpro-Hamas\u201d gathering.<\/p>\n

Gov. Greg Abbott announced he will deploy the state\u2019s National Guard to Austin ahead of the protests. Abbott said in a news release he is also sending Texas Rangers, state troopers and Department of Public Safety personnel to Austin. It\u2019s not clear if Guard troops will be deployed to North Texas. <\/p>\n

\u201cViolence and destruction will never be tolerated in Texas,\u201d Abbott said.<\/p>\n

Texas Democrats criticized the move, accusing Abbott of trying to intimidate people exercising their First Amendment right. <\/p>\n

\u201cSending armed soldiers to suppress peaceful protests is what kings and dictators do \u2014 and Greg Abbott just proved he\u2019s one of them,\u201d House Democratic Caucus chair Rep. Gene Wu of Houston said in a statement.<\/p>\n
