{"id":86080,"date":"2025-12-12T22:41:29","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T22:41:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/86080\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T22:41:29","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T22:41:29","slug":"south-plains-food-bank-thanks-volunteers-for-on-going-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/86080\/","title":{"rendered":"South Plains Food Bank thanks volunteers for on-going support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.feedingamerica.org\/find-your-local-foodbank\/south-plains-food-bank\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.feedingamerica.org\/find-your-local-foodbank\/south-plains-food-bank\">South Plains Food Bank<\/a> distributes more than 400 boxes of food daily, with help from volunteers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Kris Perez is the volunteer coordinator for the South Plains Food Bank. He says volunteers are essential to its mission of helping families facing food insecurity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWithout them, we can\u2019t do what we do; we need them every day,\u201d Perez said. \u201cI know during the holiday season people get that warm fuzzy feeling and want to come help, but that help is needed year-round.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Impact on volunteers<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Salem Henry first started volunteering at the food bank for a class but continues to return to help, saying there\u2019s no better feeling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s awesome knowing that everybody in all walks of life comes here to help these people out in need and that we all want the same thing,\u201d Henry said. \u201cEven with everything going on in the world we all still have this one common goal to help these people out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Mary Perez has volunteered for over a year. She said people of all ages and backgrounds come together at the food bank for one common goal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s so satisfying and gratifying,\u201d Perez said. \u201cThere are some people who really need the help, we have some regular volunteers that I see all the time here, so we\u2019re all like a family here now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Volunteer hours make impact<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Kris Perez said the food bank logged 55,000 volunteer hours last year. He said just a couple of hours a month makes a big difference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI can\u2019t save the world, because there\u2019s a lot that goes on outside these walls,\u201d Perez said. \u201cBut if I can help my neighbor just to give him something to eat, it\u2019s pretty amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Perez said volunteering impacts both those receiving help and those providing it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe hardest part is just signing up, get out here, get the experience, and you can see how life-changing it is, not just for the people outside these walls but even in here, even for yourself, mainly for yourself,\u201d Perez said. \u201cYou will see what a difference it can make.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How to donate<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For more information on how to donate to the 2025 U Can Share Food Drive, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spfb.org\/u-can-share-2\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.spfb.org\/u-can-share-2\/\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 KCBD.
