PULLMAN, Washington (KCBD) – Seniors Snudda Collins and Bailey Maupin scored 19 points as the Texas Tech Lady Raiders dominated the Washington State Cougars, 82-51, at Beasley Coliseum on Friday night.<\/p>\n
Texas Tech (11-0) was led in scoring by both Collins and Maupin, as Collins went a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Maupin went 7-for-15 (.467) from the field and shot 50 percent from behind the arc (4-for-8). She also led the way with a season-best of seven assists and a team-high of four steals.<\/p>\n
Adlee Blacklock had a great game \u2013 going 3-for-4 (.750) from the 3-point line as she totaled her first double-digit game of the year with 13 points. Jalynn Bristow posted 12 points and seven rebounds on 50 percent shooting (5-for-10). In addition, Gemma N\u00fa\u00f1ez added seven points, five boards, five assists and four steals against Washington State (1-10).<\/p>\n
Texas Tech totaled a season high of 18 steals and posted its lowest number of turnovers with 12. The Lady Raiders shot well throughout the game, going 32-for-60 from the field (.533) and 9-for-18 from the three (.500). Tech added 18 assists and outrebounded the Cougars 32 to 28.<\/p>\n
Tech took a 4-0 lead to start the game thanks to a couple free throws from Bristow and a second-chance layup by Sarengbe Sanogo. Washington State scored the next five points before Tech got a turnaround jumper from Collins. Another Cougar three gave them the lead back, then Collins followed with two more free throws. Maupin tied things at 10-all with a mid-range jumper heading into the media timeout. After that, Collins kept up her scoring with four-straight points. Tech went on an 8-0 run at the end of the period, highlighted by a steal and fastbreak layup from N\u00fa\u00f1ez and a charge taken by Blacklock. Blacklock took another charge then made two free throws as the Lady Raiders led 24-16 after one.<\/p>\n
Sanogo scored a layup to begin the second quarter thanks to the dish from Blacklock. A steal from Denae Fritz led to a Jada Malone layup. Then, Malone followed that with a steal of her own that led to a Blacklock fastbreak layup as Tech led 30-16 to force a Washington State timeout. The Scarlet and Black kept up its run, scoring 16-straight points before Washington State finally got a field goal at the 3:01 mark. Tech held the Cougars to just four points in the quarter, while shooting 60 percent from the field (9-for-15) as the Lady Raiders took a 44-20 lead going into the half.<\/p>\n
Texas Tech went on a 9-0 run to start the third period thanks to layups from N\u00fa\u00f1ez, Bristow and Fritz, and a 3-pointer by Maupin. Washington State scored the next four points before Maupin made a mid-range jumper. The Cougars nailed a three, but Maupin responded right back with a 3-pointer of her own as Tech led 58-29 heading into the media timeout. Collins kept her momentum with five points in a row, then Fritz grabbed a steal and scored a layup off of it. The Cougars stopped the Tech run, until Maupin hit a long three to make it 68-33. Washington State closed out the quarter on a 7-0 run as Tech held the 30-point advantage.<\/p>\n
Tech scored first once again as Collins got a jumper to make it 72-40 in the fourth. Washington State forced a Lady Raider timeout after scoring the next five points with 7:14 left in the game. Blacklock was heating up after she made three back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers in a span of a minute and a half of play. Both teams went scoreless after that until the Cougars got a field goal at 2:06. Maupin made a free throw and Julie Nekoln\u00e1 grabbed a steal to finish the game off as Tech got the 82-51 win.<\/p>\n
Up next, the Lady Raiders head to Odessa, Texas for a neutral site game against Abilene Christian on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the OC Sports Center. <\/p>\n
