CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 The trial for Enrique Lopez, who is charged in connection with the death of 3-year-old Augustine \u201cAugie\u201d Valencia, has been delayed.<\/p>\n
RELATED: UPDATE: Arrest report details charges against 3-year-old’s mother arrested in connection with his death<\/a><\/p>\n Lopez was originally scheduled to face trial next week, but a judge on Thursday reset the case until October.\u00a0<\/p>\n Lopez is charged with a first-degree felony count of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury. He has pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n Prosecutors allege Lopez inflicted fatal injuries on the toddler at the Veranda Apartments in Corpus Christi. Lopez was the boyfriend of the child\u2019s mother at the time of the child\u2019s death.\u00a0<\/p>\n During a prior court hearing, a judge denied Lopez\u2019s latest request to reduce his $1 million bond. It marked the third attempt by Lopez and his attorney, Mark Gonzalez, to have the bond lowered.<\/p>\n At that hearing, Lopez\u2019s mother testified that she could not afford the bond amount. Lopez also told the court he wanted the bond reduced so he could return to work and help support his family. Judge Michael McCauley denied the request.<\/p>\n Corpus Christi police were called to the Veranda Apartments in February after Lopez reported the child was not breathing.
