{"id":89432,"date":"2025-12-16T02:31:19","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T02:31:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/89432\/"},"modified":"2025-12-16T02:31:19","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T02:31:19","slug":"legendary-texas-singer-songwriter-joe-ely-dead-at-78","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/89432\/","title":{"rendered":"Legendary Texas singer-songwriter Joe Ely dead at 78"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; Legendary singer-songwriter Joe Ely died today from complications of Lewy Body Dementia, Parkinson\u2019s and pneumonia. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to a Facebook post, Ely was at his family\u2019s home in Taos, New Mexico, with his wife, Sharon, and daughter, Marie, by his side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Ely, who was born in Amarillo, was raised in Lubbock and left his mark on the music scene before moving to Austin and influencing artists like the Clash and Bruce Springsteen, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/joe-ely-flatlanders-dead-obituary-1235484808\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/joe-ely-flatlanders-dead-obituary-1235484808\/\">according to Rolling Stone<\/a>. In 2016, Ely was again inducted with the group The Flatlanders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In a social media post, Civic Lubbock Inc. said Ely \u201cwill be sorely missed and our sincere condolences go out to his wife, Sharon, and his family, friends and fellow musicians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Ely was 78 years old.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 KCBD.
