{"id":90051,"date":"2025-12-16T15:37:18","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T15:37:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/90051\/"},"modified":"2025-12-16T15:37:18","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T15:37:18","slug":"lubbock-vigil-to-memorialize-citys-homeless-on-longest-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/90051\/","title":{"rendered":"Lubbock vigil to memorialize city&#8217;s homeless on longest night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dec. 16, 2025, 4:07 a.m. CT<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Local advocates for the city&#8217;s homeless population are organizing a vigil memorializing people who have died during the past year while experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The half-hour long vigil organized by the South Plains Homeless Consortium is set for 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Dave Freriks Park near the intersection of 16th Street and Avenue K in downtown Lubbock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The event is part of National Homeless Persons\u2019 Memorial Day, which is observed annually on Dec. 21 \u2014 the first day of winter and the longest night of the year, according to a consortium news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The memorial serves as a time to reflect lives lost and to acknowledge the harsh realities faced by people without stable housing.
