{"id":90123,"date":"2025-12-16T16:41:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T16:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/90123\/"},"modified":"2025-12-16T16:41:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T16:41:07","slug":"texas-am-experts-spotlight-water-solutions-at-world-water-congress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/90123\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas A&#038;M experts spotlight water solutions at World Water Congress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>International science leaders gathered at the <a href=\"https:\/\/worldwatercongress.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">19th World Water Congress<\/a> in Marrakech, Morocco, in December to share emerging research and solutions to global water security and water quality challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Experts from <a href=\"https:\/\/agrilife.tamu.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas A&amp;M AgriLife<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.tamu.edu\/index.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas A&amp;M University College of Engineering<\/a> hosted more than 10 special sessions and contributed to several presentations. The gathering welcomed over 1,200 participants from more than 80 countries. (International Water Resources Association)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/baen.tamu.edu\/people\/mohtar-rabi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rabi Mohtar, Ph.D.<\/a>, is a professor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/baen.tamu.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas A&amp;M Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.tamu.edu\/civil\/index.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zachry Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Texas A&amp;M<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/tees.tamu.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas A&amp;M Engineering Experiment Station<\/a>. He serves as IWRA vice president and co-chair of the World Water Congress and leads the <a href=\"https:\/\/worldwatercongress.com\/governance-body-and-committees\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">International Scientific Committee<\/a> overseeing technical content.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe congress was hosted by the government of Morocco and placed Texas A&amp;M on the global stage at the forefront of innovation in a changing world,\u201d Mohtar said. \u201cBesides the exceptional technical contributions, the legacy of the congress is in promoting youth and charting a path to inform the global water agenda through science and ministerial declarations that will be submitted to the U.N. Water Conference in 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Affordable and safe water sources for communities<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twri.tamu.edu\/giovanni-piccinni\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Giovanni Piccinni, Ph.D.<\/a>, director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twri.tamu.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas Water Resources Institute<\/a>, TWRI, and professor in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aglifesciences.tamu.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas A&amp;M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/soilcrop.tamu.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Soil and Crop Sciences<\/a>, moderated a special session on the safety and affordability of water sources for communities \u2014 a major topic at the event.<\/p>\n<p>Water safety and affordability are significant challenges in Texas and other parts of the world where water resources are decreasing and populations are increasing. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The special session, \u201cUnlocking New Water Frontiers: Exploring Opportunities and Risks of Alternative Sources for Agriculture and Urban Use,\u201d included Texas A&amp;M AgriLife experts presenting research and analyses.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas A&amp;M experts were: <a href=\"https:\/\/twri.tamu.edu\/allen-berthold\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Allen Berthold, Ph.D.<\/a>, TWRI associate director, Bryan-College Station; <a href=\"https:\/\/soilcrop.tamu.edu\/people\/lewis-katie\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Katie Lewis, Ph.D.<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/agriliferesearch.tamu.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas A&amp;M AgriLife Research<\/a> soil chemistry and fertility scientist and professor, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Lubbock; and <a href=\"https:\/\/soilcrop.tamu.edu\/people\/burke-joseph\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joseph Burke, Ph.D.<\/a>, AgriLife Research and <a href=\"https:\/\/agrilifeextension.tamu.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas A&amp;M AgriLife Extension Service<\/a> cropping system agronomy and weed scientist and assistant professor, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Lubbock.<\/p>\n<p>Additional presenters were Maria Michela Dell\u2019Anna, Ph.D., of DICATECh, Bari, Italy, and Vinay Nangia, Ph.D., of the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas, Rabat, Morocco.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twri.tamu.edu\/rosario-sanchez\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rosario Sanchez, Ph.D.<\/a>, TWRI senior research scientist, Bryan-College Station, also presented at the congress.
