{"id":90951,"date":"2025-12-17T04:13:05","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T04:13:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/90951\/"},"modified":"2025-12-17T04:13:05","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T04:13:05","slug":"lubbock-grand-jury-indicts-man-who-shot-at-off-duty-officer-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/90951\/","title":{"rendered":"Lubbock grand jury indicts man who shot at off-duty officer, family"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; A Lubbock grand jury has indicted a 51-year-old man who was arrested after shooting at an off-duty officer and his family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Sylas Smart is facing three counts of aggravated assault against a public servant and six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The attack occurred at a home near 69th St. and Genoa Ave. on Nov. 14. Smart jumped out from behind a tree and began shooting at an off-duty officer and his family, according to police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Lubbock Police said Smart also began shooting at responding officers before running away. Detectives reported Smart then broke into a home a block over and kept running until officers caught up with him and he surrendered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">No one was injured in the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 KCBD.
