Fans of the famous British writer Jane Austen will have a chance to step into the world of her works early in 2026, Arlington Museum of Art event organizers announced Dec. 16.<\/p>\n
The exhibit, \u201cDressed for the Drawing Room: Fashion in Jane Austen\u2019s World,\u201d commemorates Austen\u2019s 250th birthday<\/a> by displaying costumes from film adaptations of some of her most famous works.<\/p>\n \u201cLiterature, film and costuming are all important expressions of time, place and identity,\u201d says AMA director of exhibitions Kendall Quirk, \u201cJane Austen\u2019s novels are full of observations of the time period she was living in.\u201d<\/p>\n The exhibit is being co-hosted by the museum and the Jane Austen Society of North America \u2013 North Texas Chapter<\/a>, a nonprofit staffed by volunteers who look to keep Austen\u2019s writing alive and help people better understand her works.<\/p>\n The costumes that will be on display will come from two films based on Austen\u2019s writing:\u00a0<\/p>\n Both films are set in the Regency era, between 1811 and 1820, which is prominently featured in much of Austen\u2019s writing.<\/p>\n \u201cUsing costume to portray these subtleties of the Regency era highlights how important details are,\u201d Quirk said. \u201cWe hope visitors experience costumes from their favorite Austen films and gain a better understanding of what each costume signified for the characters.\u201d<\/p>\n The exhibit will open its doors on Jan. 9, 2026, and will close on March 22, 2026.
