After a five-year run near Medical Center, plant-based eatery <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/misschickpeascafetal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Miss Chickpea\u2019s Cafetal<\/a> will close up shop at 8002 Callaghan Rd #106 on December 28.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been a crazy ride these last 5 years from a small dream to a cafe, but we are having to start a new chapter of Miss Chickpeas without the Cafetal,\u201d writes the restaurant in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DSV_qAEkmIq\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">social media statement<\/a>. \u201cThe market is ever fluctuating, and in order for us to keep moving and growing, we are having to make this difficult adjustment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chef Tatiana Martinez, a lifetime baker and a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, first opened the outpost as a bake shop, specializing in pastries and other sweets that tasted like they were made with dairy fat. Over time, she moved the baking operations to 10105 Broadway, converting the original shop into a cafe.<\/p>\n<p>The move allowed the brand to expand its offerings. The menu offered grab-and-go savory pastries like kolaches and biscuits, quesadillas, smoothies, salads, and several pan-Latin dishes, including bean and cheese pupusas, jamon tortas,and a Salvadoran-style breakfast combo.<\/p>\n<p>Although the original location will soon be gone, Miss Chickpea\u2019s fans should take heart. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/misschickpeasbakeshop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Broadway bakery<\/a> isn\u2019t going anywhere and is currently taking Christmas orders for treats like apple chai caramel pie, gingerbread \u201ccheezcake,\u201dand garlic herb dinner rolls. In fact, there are big plans for the shop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFret not, we will be renovating the Broadway location to be able to offer more options, and we have exciting plans in the works for 2026,\u201d says the restaurant. \u201cThe Chickpeas are only just getting started.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A request for more information on the remodel was not immediately returned. Until its final day, Miss Chickpea\u2019s Cafetal will be open Thursday through Saturday, 8 am-3 pm, and Sundays, 8 am-noon.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"San Antonio\u2019s already lackluster vegan scene is taking another hit.
