<\/p>\n ARLINGTON, Texas \u2013\u00a0The UT Arlington women’s basketball team (6-5) mounted a second half comeback behind staunch defense to earn the 81-73 win over the Texas Southern Tigers (3-7) on Wednesday night inside the College Park Center.

\nThe Lady Mavs (6-5) had four players score in double figures, led by Kali Haizlip<\/a>, who had career-highs with 17 points and four assists. Mila Reynolds<\/a> tacked on 16 points and Jadyn Atchison<\/a> chipped in as well with 12 points, four assists and two blocks from the bench.

\nUTA grabbed 43 rebounds in Wednesday’s game compared to Texas Southern’s 34, led by Kira Reynolds’<\/a> 11 boards. The Lady Mavs also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 16 rebounds into 21 second chance points.

\nThe Lady Mavs forced 20 Texas Southern turnovers, turning those takeaways into 34 points on the offensive end of the floor. Kira Reynolds’<\/a> three steals led the way for UT Arlington.

\nGAME FLOW
\nAfter UTA recorded the first point of the game on a technical free throw to start action, Texas Southern went on a 9-0 run to jump out to a 9-1 lead in the early going of the game. UTA battled back to make it 13-6, before going on a 7-0 run with 3:30 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Laura Bello<\/a>, to tie the game at 13. The Lady Mavs then proceeded to grab an 18-15 lead heading into quarter number two. UTA capitalized on five Texas Southern turnovers in the period, turning them into nine points on the other end of the floor.

\nUTA kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 5-0 run starting at the 3:53 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Jeanne Rodriguez<\/a>, to increase its lead to 34-28. The Tigers then came roaring back to take a 41-36 lead heading into halftime.

\nTexas Southern continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 47-39 advantage before the Lady Mavs went on a 10-0 run to grab a 49-47 lead with 5:04 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Lady Mavs added one point to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 60-57 edge. UTA took advantage of eight Texas Southern turnovers in the quarter, scoring 16 points off of takeaways.

\nUTA kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Kira Reynolds’<\/a> layup, to grow the lead to 66-59 with 6:40 to go in the contest. The Lady Mavs kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 81-73 win. UTA got up and down the court quickly in the quarter, scoring five fast break points.

\nGAME NOTES<\/p>\n
\n\tKira Reynolds<\/a> notched her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
\n\tThe Lady Mavs shot well from three point range, knocking down eight of 17 long range attempts.
\n\tUTA shared the ball well, recording an assist on 87 percent of made baskets.
\n\tThe Lady Mavs bench continued making their impact by adding 26 points, four more than their average, to its scoring output.
\n\tUTA turned 20 turnovers into 34 points on the offensive end.
\n\tThe Lady Mavs had a 43-34 edge on the boards in the win.
\n\tUTA held the Tigers to shooting 27.8-percent from downtown, the ninth time this season the Lady Mavs have held opponents to under 30-percent from deep.
\n\tThe Lady Mavs were active in affecting shots on the defensive end, tallying six blocks as a team, the sixth time this season they have finished with five or more blocks in a game as a team.
\n\tUTA cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 16 offensive boards in the game.
\n\tKali Haizlip<\/a> led the Mavericks with 17 points in her first start of the season. She hit a career-high five three-pointers. The 17 points is a new career-high and she had a career-high four assists.
\n\tAs a team, the Lady Mavs finished with a season-high 26 assists.
\n\tThe win moves the Lady Mavs to an 8-10 all-time record and 5-5 record at home against Texas Southern.
\n\tUTA moves to 3-1 at home this season and 46-19 with head coach Shereka Wright<\/a> at the helm.

\nThe Lady Mavs will wrap up non-conference play with a stern test at No. 5 LSU in Baton Rouge on Sunday, Dec. 21. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m. CT inside the Maravich Center.
