A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole and found guilty Monday for a 2017 capital murder<\/a> in Frisco<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kerrico Carr, of McKinney, was convicted for a fatal shooting that occurred in a Frisco neighborhood in June 2017, according to the Collin County District Attorney\u2019s office. Prosecutors said the shooting happened over owed money.<\/p>\n

Around 10:46 a.m. that day, Frisco police responded to the area after receiving reports of a gunshot and a masked man with a firearm. Officers later found a man in a nearby yard, fatally shot in the back.<\/p>\n

Witnesses reported seeing two men in the area during the shooting in a grayish-brown van, according to prosecutors. The driver was described as a shorter man, while the passenger was a taller man wearing a ski mask.<\/p>\n

Witnesses said when the driver approached the victim\u2019s parked car, he saw the men and ran away. The masked man chased him, then shot them in the back, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors said investigators spoke with the victim\u2019s family and learned he may have been targeted by Carr because he owed Carr money and had also received threatening messages from him.<\/p>\n

A male suspect was arrested following the shooting, but investigations determined he was nowhere near the crime scene, and he was later released.<\/p>\n

The case went cold after that until 2023, when new detectives were assigned to it. During the investigation, prosecutors said detectives identified a suspect who was confirmed to have been with Carr at the shooting when it occurred.<\/p>\n

An arrest warrant was issued for Carr. However, he was arrested after he was released from a federal prison in Arkansas for conspiracy to commit identity theft.<\/p>\n

During his trial on the murder charge, a recorded jail call in which Carr admitted to being at the shooting during the murder was used as evidence by prosecutors. In the call, prosecutors said Carr admitted to going to the neighborhood to collect money he was owed.<\/p>\n
