LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock family continues to mourn the loss of four young lives taken in a tragic drunk driving crash. <\/p>\n
December is recognized as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe lived his life, my daughter and them didn\u2019t get to so that\u2019s what my anger comes from that. He stole their lives after he lived his. It\u2019s not fair,\u201d Jennifer Boivin said.<\/p>\n
On May 6, 2023, Jennifer said her 21-year-old daughter, Melodi, her 23-year-old son-in-law, Xavier Caballero, and their two young children had just left her house. They told her they\u2019d call when they made it home. They never did.<\/p>\n
Instead, Jennifer received an SOS alert on her phone saying her family had been involved in a crash. She drove to the accident and her life changed forever.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe officer came and told me my son-in-law and daughter they died on impact and the drunk driver was going the wrong way and it was a head on collision,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Police say the minivan was hit head on by an SUV driven by 46-year-old George Wallace, who was traveling in the wrong direction after leaving a nearby sports bar. Wallace also died in the crash.<\/p>\n
According to a crash report, Wallace had an empty tequila bottle and partial case of beer in his backseat.<\/p>\n
Jennifer said she watched first responders perform CPR on her grandchildren. Both later died at the hospital.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want all these people that drink and drive to understand and realize that this not what people should be doing. They shouldn\u2019t be grieving for their families because somebody wanted to drink and drive and go the wrong way and take their lives it\u2019s not fair,\u201d Jennifer said.<\/p>\n
Melodi was two months pregnant when she died. Jennifer said she has a message for families who still have each other.<\/p>\n
\u201cNever go to bed angry, always answer that phone call, always go for that visit, never take your family for granted no matter what,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
