CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 The Mother Teresa Shelter hosted a winter outreach event this week, bringing together local agencies to provide food, blankets and resources to people in need.<\/p>\n
Daniel Ramirez, outreach homeless manager at the shelter, said the event helps connect the homeless community with services while meeting immediate needs during colder weather.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe bring awareness to the homeless population and let them know what resources are available,\u201d Ramirez said.<\/p>\n
Volunteers handed out blankets, socks, and other winter essentials, many of which were donated by community members.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels great to be able to give something out so they can stay warm,\u201d Ramirez said.<\/p>\n
The shelter hosts similar outreach events two to three times a year and serves not only people experiencing homelessness, but also families struggling during the holiday season.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s more of a mission. It\u2019s not a job,\u201d Ramirez said. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to help the people here in the Coastal Bend.\u201d<\/p>\n
