If you\u2019re expecting the classic, sprawling department store experience, you\u2019re in for a surprise. I stopped by the brand-new Belk Market at The Centre at Preston Ridge to see what this new concept is all about, and the vibe is a total departure from their traditional mall locations.<\/p>\n
The Layout<\/p>\n
The company might call it a “market,” but the layout is almost a carbon copy of a Nordstrom Rack. It\u2019s a wide-open floor plan where you can see nearly the entire store from the entrance.<\/p>\n
The shoe section is massive and, exactly like the Rack, it\u2019s organized strictly by size. It makes for a much faster hunt.<\/p>\n
I went in just to scout for this article and ended up leaving with two new pairs of sandals. With this “winter” weather we’re having, I couldn’t resist \u2014 especially with a $12 price tag. I also snagged a bikini for $50; while not a bottom-dollar bargain, I liked it enough to grab it.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Inside: The Breakdown<\/p>\n
While the store is smaller than a typical anchor, they\u2019ve packed a lot into the footprint:<\/p>\n
\n\tWomen\u2019s Everywhere: The store is dominated by women\u2019s apparel \u2014 this is definitely the primary focus of the inventory.
\n\tHome Goods: Surprisingly, the home section is pretty large and nicely laid out. It\u2019s worth a walk-through even if you aren’t clothes shopping.
\n\tKids Section: The clothing area for kids is a decent size, but keep in mind, there are no kids’ shoes.
\n\tThe Checkout Extras: There isn’t a dedicated toy department, but they have a very small gift and toy area right by the registers. It\u2019s perfect for last-minute grabs. I picked up a sketchbook for the kids and an EOS lip balm while checking out.

The Verdict<\/p>\n
The experience feels much more like a discount destination than a traditional department store. It has that treasure hunt energy where you\u2019re digging through racks to find a hidden gem. It\u2019s built for the shopper who wants to pop in, find a deal, and get out without the mall hassle.<\/p>\n
