On Friday night, national recording artist Kem will perform a holiday concert at the Winspear Opera House.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s part of the Maiden Foundation\u2019s 17th annual “Soulful Christmas” event.<\/p>\n
The backstory:<\/p>\n
“Soulful Christmas” began almost two decades ago as a way to uplift the \u00a0South Oak Cliff community.<\/p>\n
Twin brothers Terrence and Tim Maiden had an idea for giving back to the community where they were raised.<\/p>\n
After succeeding in their careers in commercial banking and real estate development, they formed the nonprofit Maiden Foundation to inspire and empower youth from marginalized communities in Dallas.<\/p>\n
Their philanthropy work connects with the arts.\u00a0<\/p>\n
What they’re saying:<\/p>\n
“Sometimes you hear all the negative news about young people. So when you have those opportunities to invest in people\u2019s lives and see that change come about, it\u2019s really fulfilling,” Terrence Maiden said. “We\u2019re excited about Kem this year. We\u2019re almost at a sellout and hopefully we get there by this evening. But it\u2019s really an opportunity to have families come together \u2013 friends and colleagues \u2013 to be uplifted and inspired.”<\/p>\n

Friday night\u2019s performance is possible because of a partnership between the Maiden Foundation and the AT&T Performing Arts Center.<\/p>\n
Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit programs of the Maiden Foundation, which give back to youth in Dallas.<\/p>\n
