CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 A judge denied bond reduction today for a suspect facing murder charges in the death of a 22-year-old Corpus Christi man.<\/p>\n

Officers found 22-year-old Patrick Cantu suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.<\/p>\n Two men were arrested days after the shooting in connection to Cantu\u2019s death.\u00a0<\/p>\n One of the suspects, Xavier Reyna, appeared before Judge Stith in court today.<\/p>\n Reyna\u2019s attorney requested that his bond be reduced ahead of a trial scheduled for February. Prosecutors opposed the request, arguing that releasing Reyna would not be appropriate given the seriousness of the case.<\/p>\n A prosecutor told the court they were asking the judge not to release Reyna, emphasizing the severity of the case and noting that the victim was unable to speak for himself because he is deceased.<\/p>\n The judge ultimately denied the bond reduction request.<\/p>\n The state says it is still waiting on additional discovery, which is expected to be received and reviewed before the end of the year.
