It\u2019s been 14 years since the Texas Tech Lady Raiders found a way to get a win against the Baylor Bears. There have been 31 games in a row in which the Bears have managed to beat Texas Tech. But, finally, on Sunday, the Texas Tech women\u2019s basketball team FINALLY managed to hand the No. 15 Baylor Bears a defeat.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And it\u2019s certainly one that shows just how good this particular Texas Tech Lady Raider women\u2019s basketball team could be this season.<\/p>\n
In the Big 12 opener for Texas Tech and Baylor, the Lady Raiders managed to end their 14-year drought against the Bears despite the fact that Texas Tech just simply couldn\u2019t make anything from three point range. The Lady Raiders were pretty miserable shooting from behind the three-point line, but that 18.2 percent shooting from three didn\u2019t derail this game for Tech.<\/p>\n

Of course, solid execution in shooting free throws and generally just decent shooting, combined with an impressive defensive effort really helped the Lady Raiders get this much needed win against the Bears. Texas Tech made just 38.6 percent of its shots in this game, but did drain 13-of-17 from the free throw line against Baylor.<\/p>\n
Off the bench, Snudda Collins led the Lady Raiders in scoring with 21 points and Bailey Maupin was the only other Texas Tech player in double digits scoring with 11 points. But Gemma Nunez had six assists, Maupin had three steals, and Sarengbe Sanogo managed to get three blocks for Texas Tech.<\/p>\n
Baylor\u2019s Yuting Deng (also off the bench) led all scorers with 22 points, but that wasn\u2019t enough for Baylor to get the win.<\/p>\n
While the Bears shot pretty solidly in the fourth quarter, hitting 6-of-14 overall and 3-4 from three-point range, the Lady Raiders getting to the free throw line seven times in the final frame certainly helped a bit! Make the shots that you\u2019re given. Get a historic win. I\u2019m all for it.<\/p>\n
Texas Tech secured its 61-60 win over the Bears by getting a combined four free throws made from Collins and Maupin in the last 40 seconds of the game. I’m here for it. <\/p>\n
Texas Tech is now 14-0 on the season and 1-0 in Big 12 play.
