Saturday\u2019s Storm Threat:<\/p>\n
We have a storm threat across Houston this weekend, with a severe weather threat NE of Houston. The primary concern is the threat for damaging winds. We\u2019re watching a front move through Houston this afternoon into evening, potentially bringing intense storms with damaging winds reaching 20+ mph. <\/p>\n
A notable risk of severe thunderstorms is developing today in northern areas- Spring, The Woodlands, Conroe, Huntsville, Livingston, and Liberty:<\/p>\n
Despite possible rain, the region remains extremely dry, with burn bans in place across most counties. Gusty winds up to 20 +mph combined with warm temperatures will elevate fire risk, especially on Sunday. Any spark could lead to rapidly spreading fires, so we\u2019ll be monitoring conditions closely all weekend. Stay safe and prepared!<\/p>\n
Saturday Severe Threat<\/p>\n
We\u2019ll start off the day with scattered light rain showers by the coast. Shouldn\u2019t cause any problems. <\/p>\n
10AM Saturday<\/p>\n
By the afternoon these will drift further inland and it\u2019s possible we can start seeing scattered thunderstorms by 2PM. This first round of storms are pre-frontal, they are diurnal thunderstorms that will blossom during the heat of the day. <\/p>\n
3PM Saturday<\/p>\n
By 5PM we have a chance of some stronger storms with frequent lightning strikes and heavy downpours, especially northeast of Houston. Areas to the Northeast also have a damaging wind threat. <\/p>\n
5PM Saturday<\/p>\n
By 9PM we\u2019ll be tracking our actual cold front that will be bringing storms from the northwest to the southeast. Huntsville, Conroe, Brenham, Tomball, you\u2019ll see these storms first. <\/p>\n
9PM Saturday<\/p>\n
This line will likely push through the Houston area around 11PM, and they may be quite noisy with lightning and strong winds. Put the dogs in their thunder jackets before bed. <\/p>\n
11PM Saturday<\/p>\n
While the cool front won\u2019t bring a convincing push of cooler weather, it will bring an early alarm clock on Sunday as the line of storms comes through! <\/p>\n

The front will keep progressing southeast and exit off the coast by 2AM. We will then be dry for all of Sunday. <\/p>\n
2AM Sunday<\/p>\n
Now remember, forecasting is not a perfect science, the cold front could speed up or slow down, they usually they speed up, so it\u2019s possible the times could be a little adjusted. <\/p>\n
Elevated Fire Risk:<\/p>\n
Despite the increase in humidity and rain chances, we continue to monitor fire dangers across SE Texas. Burn bans are increasing across the area with only a few counties holding out. <\/p>\n

Avoid spark-causing activities, as fires can flare up fast.<\/p>\n
Never leave a fire burning unattended or without purpose.<\/p>\n
Secure tow chains to prevent dragging and sparking.<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t drive or park over tall grass.<\/p>\n
Avoid tossing lit cigarettes onto the ground.<\/p>\n
We will likely see more counties added to the list through the next few weeks, especially if we stay in this hot and dry pattern, which appears that we will. <\/p>\n
Your extended forecast: <\/p>\n
We are tracking several cold fronts in the 10 day. There\u2019s the cold front bringing storms Saturday that will drop humidity for Sunday. We are also tracking a cold front Tuesday that will shift our winds. Our final cold front comes at the end of next week to drop our highs into the mid-80s. Monday morning looks to be the coolest morning in our forecast!<\/p>\n
