LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Lubbock County commissioners unanimously approved a roadside project that has been in talks for decades during today\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n
The conversation centers around stop signs in a growing neighborhood near S. Indiana Ave. As hundreds of families build their lives in the Hub City, Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish said it\u2019s the top priority for area leaders to protect them.<\/p>\n
He said step one will be to fund and put up the signs slowing down traffic near Joliet Ave. and 150th St., especially since this will save lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we talk about the cost of stop signs and those type of traffic controllers, those type of costs are negligible based on the cost of an injured child or an injured parent,\u201d Parrish said. \u201cIt\u2019s absolutely imperative we look at public safety first. We\u2019ll find the cost, but that cost is small compared to the cost of a human life.\u201d<\/p>\n
A man who has lived in the area for over a decade and has watched it grow is applauding commissioners. He\u2019s glad change is finally happening and is confident it will happen quickly.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m sure it will happen. I was there. I saw the vote and it was unanimous,\u201d Robert Grimes, who lives in the Indiana South Neighborhood, said. \u201cThe county is watching out for the citizens, and that\u2019s what we\u2019re asking for. There\u2019s lots of neighborhood children out there and people race up and down Joliet like a race track. So, now we\u2019re gonna have some stop signs to keep us all safer.\u201d<\/p>\n
A timeline for when the signs would be put up was not given in today\u2019s meeting, but Judge Parrish is promising to meet with county employees to make it a quick process.<\/p>\n
