(WAFB) &#8211; A Texas man has been ordered to spend two decades behind bars after being convicted of a deadly crash where officials say he drove the wrong way down the interstate while impaired in Sorrento. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the 23rd Judicial District Attorney\u2019s Office, a judge sentenced Joshua Cannon, 36, of Nederland, Texas, on Dec. 15, 2025, to 20 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The sentence comes months after officials say Cannon pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and DWI 3rd offense on May 19, 2025. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">His sentence had been deferred pending a pre-sentence investigation, according to the district attorney\u2019s office. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The deadly crash happened in October of 2023. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wafb.com\/2023\/10\/25\/suspected-impaired-driver-accused-driving-wrong-way-down-interstate-deadly-crash\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wafb.com\/2023\/10\/25\/suspected-impaired-driver-accused-driving-wrong-way-down-interstate-deadly-crash\/\">Suspected impaired driver accused of driving wrong way down interstate in deadly crash<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Louisiana State Police identified the woman who was killed in the crash as Jaranisha Carter, 23, of Prairieville. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Troopers said Cannon was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse west in the eastbound lanes of I-10 when he hit Carter\u2019s 2008 Honda Accord head-on in the eastbound lane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Cannon displayed multiple signs of impairment during the on-scene investigation, according to state police. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He was arrested after being released from the hospital for moderate injuries he sustained in the crash, added state police. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wafb.com\/2025\/12\/22\/impaired-texas-driver-sentenced-deadly-crash-ascension-parish-officials-say\/mailto:typo@wafb.com\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wafb.com\/2025\/12\/22\/impaired-texas-driver-sentenced-deadly-crash-ascension-parish-officials-say\/mailto:typo@wafb.com\">Click here<\/a> to report a typo.
