A driver for Houston-area bus services was detained by police on Sunday after allegedly stabbing a customer after a bus ride, officials confirmed.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, or METRO, said the altercation took place around 9 p.m. Sunday at the Greenspoint Transit Center. A patron had boarded the bus and “made physical contact” with the driver, the public transit agency said.<\/p>\n

At that point, the driver and the passenger began fighting, which continued once the bus had stopped at the station in north Houston, just east of Interstate 45.<\/p>\n

Once the bus had stopped, the driver “retrieved a sharp object and stabbed the customer,” a METRO spokesperson said. The extent of the victim’s injuries was not immediately clear, but the victim was hospitalized and was expected to recover as of Monday morning, according to METRO.<\/p>\n

The driver was detained by law enforcement at the bus station.<\/p>\n

“METRO is cooperating fully with law enforcement as the investigation continues,” Kaila Contreras-Aradillas, a spokesperson for METRO, said in a statement.<\/p>\n

METRO did not share the identity of the driver accused of stabbing the customer, nor did it name the customer.<\/p>\n
