We can thank our friendly neighborhood <a href=\"https:\/\/kfyo.com\/texas-tech-university-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Texas Tech<\/a> for that. But when you put Lubbock up against the other\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/comptroller.texas.gov\/transparency\/local\/cities.php#:~:text=Texas%20has%20more%20than%201%2C200%20incorporated%20cities.,annual%20reports%2C%20and%20detailed%20spending%20information%20online.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">1,224 cities in the state<\/a>,\u00a0how\u00a0do we match up to the larger contributors like Austin or Houston?<\/p>\n<p>Everything&#8217;s Bigger in Texas&#8230; Including the City Populations<\/p>\n<p>Lubbock sneaks in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/zipatlas.com\/us\/tx\/city-comparison\/highest-population.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">top 10 largest Texas cities by population<\/a>\u00a0at number 10 with roughly\u00a0258,190. Way to go Lubbock! That is, until you see the rest on the list.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ve got Plano, Arlington and Corpus Christi in the next three spots all under 400k, but then you get to the top five:<\/p>\n<p>#5. Fort Worth &#8211;\u00a0924,663#4. Austin &#8211;\u00a0958,202#3. Dallas &#8211;\u00a01,300,642#2. San Antonio &#8211;\u00a01,445,662#1. Houston &#8211;\u00a02,296,253Texas&#8217; Youngest Cities, It&#8217;s Time to Grow Up<\/p>\n<p>Now, we take a look at the youngest cities in Texas,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/zipatlas.com\/us\/tx\/city-comparison\/youngest-population.3.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to Zip Atlas<\/a>. The largest city in the state by population, Houston, has an average age of 33.9. Then, the Big D has a median age of 33.1.<\/p>\n<p>These still don&#8217;t beat Lubbock&#8217;s average age of citizens at 30 years. We&#8217;re just a city of young bucks, I guess. That&#8217;s right, at 30 years old for the average Lubbockite, the city ranks 260 out of all 1,225 cities in order of youngest average age.<\/p>\n<p>Youngest vs. Oldest: Texas City Edition<\/p>\n<p>What is the youngest Texas city on record? Well, technically that&#8217;s the unincorporated town of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasalmanac.com\/places\/ranchitos-del-norte#:~:text=Ranchitos%20Del%20Norte%20is%20part,is%20classified%20as%20a%20Town\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ranchitos Del Norte<\/a> in Starr County, but one of the youngest formal Texas cities is <a href=\"https:\/\/palmertx.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Palmer,\u00a0<\/a>with an average age of 18.5 years old.<\/p>\n<p>The oldest Texas town by population? That title goes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tshaonline.org\/handbook\/entries\/streetman-tx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Streetman, TX<\/a>, just east of Waco with an average age of 39.2.
