{"id":99199,"date":"2025-12-24T01:29:17","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T01:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/99199\/"},"modified":"2025-12-24T01:29:17","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T01:29:17","slug":"texas-national-guards-deployment-in-illinois-blocked-by-u-s-supreme-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/99199\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas National Guard\u2019s deployment in Illinois blocked by U.S. Supreme Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The U.S. Supreme Court has dealt a blow against President Donald Trump\u2019s push for the National Guard\u2019s deployment in Illinois, which included hundreds of troops from Texas. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The high court on Tuesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/search.aspx?filename=\/docket\/DocketFiles\/html\/Public\/25A443.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">denied<\/a> an application for a pause of a lower court\u2019s ruling that bars the National Guard troops\u2019 mobilization in the Chicago area. The Trump administration, which says such deployment is needed to protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, submitted its request on Oct. 17.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cAt this preliminary stage, the Government has failed to identify a source of authority that would allow the military to execute the laws in Illinois,\u201d said the Supreme Court\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/25pdf\/25a443_ba7d.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">decision<\/a>, with Justice Brett Kavanaugh penning a concurrent opinion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Meanwhile, Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/25pdf\/25a443_ba7d.pdf#page=8\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">disagreed<\/a> with the majority\u2019s ruling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI am not prepared at this point to express a definite view on these questions, but I have serious doubts about the correctness of the Court\u2019s views,\u201d Alito wrote. \u201cAnd I strongly disagree with the manner in which the Court has disposed of this application.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In early October, Gov. Greg Abbott authorized the federal government\u2019s mobilization of 400 troops from Texas to other states. Around 200 Texas guardsmen were then deployed to the Chicago area as of Oct. 8, despite the opposition from state and local governments in Illinois. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Shortly after, a federal court ruled that these troops <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2025\/10\/08\/texas-national-guard-abbott-deployment-chicago\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">couldn\u2019t be activated<\/a>, although they didn\u2019t have to withdraw from the area. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">On Nov. 19, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northcom.mil\/Missions\/Homeland-Defense\/Federal-Protection-Mission\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Northern Command said<\/a> the 200 Texas National Guard troops in Illinois were being demobilized and another 200 in Texas were on standby. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">When reached for comment, Abbott\u2019s office deferred to the Department of Defense, which redirected the Texas Tribune to the White House. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Abigail Jackson, White House spokeswoman, said the president will continue his work to protect the American public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cHe activated the National Guard to protect federal law enforcement officers, and to ensure rioters did not destroy federal buildings and property,\u201d Jackson said in a statement. \u201cNothing in today\u2019s ruling detracts from that core agenda.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Meanwhile, Illinois Gov.
