Ladislav Krejčí to Wolves is advancing, with the Czech international poised to be the club’s sixth permanent deal of the window.

The Girona defender has a £26 million release clause, but Wolves intend to negotiate a lower fee for the player.

On top of Krejčí, Wolves are reportedly working on signing another La Liga player and showing real intent to bolster their options before the transfer window closes.

Details surrounding Krejčí’s move are quickly coming out, and his role for Wolves this season has been revealed.

Wolves are signing Ladislav Krejčí to play on the left side of defence, according to a report by the Express and Star.

The article says that the Czech defender “would fit the bill as the left-sided defender that Wolves are keen to sign before the transfer window closes” before continuing to say that he is coming in to provide cover and competition for captain Toti Gomes.

Wolves’ interest in a defender has been widely reported over the last few weeks. First, a deal for Axel Disasi was reported, followed not long after by suggestions that Jakub Kiwior was targeted by Wolves.

The search seems set to end after Ladislav Krejčí was deemed to be their man, and his qualities as a defender might not be the only thing that put a move in motion.

Ladislav Krejčí can also play in midfield for Wolves

Ladislav Krejčí is a versatile player who can play in a plethora of positions. At Girona, he was solely played as a centre-back; however, his career prior to playing in Spain offers Vitor Pereira another option.

The 26-year-old was a key member of Sparta Praha’s back-to-back league-winning side during 2022/2023 and 2023/2024, captaining the side during both campaigns.

But he didn’t play as a centre-back then; he was deployed as a midfielder. In fact, throughout his career, he has more games in midfield (124) than he does in defence (108).

His games in the middle of the pitch are scattered around in multiple roles, including as a central and an attacking midfielder, but his most prominent was as a defensive one.

According to the report by the Express and Star, Wolves are also targeting a defensive midfielder, and Ladislav Krejčí could perhaps be a two-for-the-price-of-one deal.
