CABAZON, Calif. (KABC) — The parents of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro were arrested Friday on suspicion of murder, just over a week after the baby’s mother reported him kidnapped in Yucaipa, authorities said.

Jake and Rebecca Haro were taken into custody at their home in Cabazon. No other details about the arrests were immediately available.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS STORY AND WILL BE UPDATED. ABC7’s previous report is below.

A law enforcement operation was underway Friday morning at the home of a family whose 7-month-old baby boy has been missing for just over a week, authorities said.

Few details were immediately available about the operation, which was confirmed to ABC7 by a spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The spokesperson did not specify which agency or agencies were involved in the law enforcement activity at the home Friday as the search for young Emmanuel Haro continued.

On Tuesday, investigators seized a vehicle belonging to the baby’s father.

Emmanuel Haro was reported missing Aug. 14 after his mother, Rebecca Haro, said she was attacked and knocked out in a parking lot near a Big 5 store in Yucaipa. When she regained consciousness, she told investigators her baby was gone and that he had been kidnapped.

Since Emmanuel’s disappearance, the boys’ parents have come under scrutiny after the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said that investigators found “inconsistencies” in the mother’s story.

Nearly a week after a 7-month-old boy was reported missing in Yucaipa, investigators seized a vehicle belonging to the baby’s father.

“Rebecca was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release Saturday. “At this point in the investigation, investigators are unable to rule out foul play in the disappearance of Emmanuel.”

Sheriff’s officials said investigators interviewed multiple people, including the child’s father, Jake Haro, who pleaded guilty to willful cruelty to a child following a 2018 arrest, according to Riverside County records.

A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Department says Jake Haro’s vehicle was seized for evidence amid the investigation. On Thursday, his attorney released a statement saying Jake Haro was cooperating with law enforcement and investigators.

Over the weekend, detectives also searched the parents’ Cabazon home with K-9 units. A fire broke out Tuesday at a house on the same block where the Haros live. Authorities say the fire’s proximity to the Haros’ residence appeared to be a coincidence.

Authorities are continuing their search for Emmanuel and ask anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division at 909-890-4904.
