Provost Paul E. Jensen announced Thursday that two colleges will be merged into a new College of Engineering and Computing, effective September 2026.

As part of the university’s broader Academic Transformation, three colleges will be consolidated under the umbrella of the new CEC: the College of Engineering, the College of Computing and Informatics and the School of Biomedical Engineering.

“The naming of the new College of Engineering and Computing is an important step in Drexel’s Academic Transformation. By bringing together three strong academic units, we are aligning Drexel’s teaching and research strengths to create new opportunities for students and faculty to collaborate on solving some of the world’s most pressing challenges. One example is the College’s new undergraduate degree in artificial intelligence and machine learning, which will welcome its first students in fall 2026. This is just one of many opportunities that will emerge from this integration in the months ahead,” Jensen told The Triangle via email.

While the name of the new college is not the catchiest, it presents a prime naming opportunity for a potential donor – likely an important criterion for university leadership.

More schools will also be consolidated as part of the effort: the School of Education will join the College of Arts and Sciences, the Close School of Entrepreneurship will join the LeBow College of Business and the AJ Drexel Autism Institute will join the Dornsife School of Public Health.

The Academic Transformation will also include the transition to a semester calendar in September 2027. The curriculum for every program will be reimagined in the process, with some courses and programs expected to be consolidated themselves, though the Curricular Transformation is also in the works.
