South Park’s season 27 episode release schedule has been a bit unusual.

The Comedy Central series won’t be back with a new episode until Wednesday, September 3, which means there won’t be a new episode on Wednesday, August 26.

Since the “South Park” season 27 premiere on July 23, new episodes have premiered every other week instead of weekly. That trend will continue for the foreseeable future, with episode 4 airing on September 3 and episode 5 airing on September 17.

While “South Park” cocreators Trey Parker and Matt Stone haven’t confirmed the reason for the biweekly releases, it makes sense given their infamous six-day production schedule. As shown in the 2011 documentary, “6 Days to Air: The Making of South Park,” new episodes are made as the season progresses rather than in advance.

With the adult cartoon enjoying a surge in ratings — the season premiere got the show’s biggest share of the cable audience since 1999 — Parker and Stone are likely trying to take more time with each episode.

Season 27 has been very topical, with episode 3 skewering President Donald Trump for sending the National Guard into Washington D.C. Trump, who is depicted on “South Park” with a real picture of his face atop a cartoon body, has gotten a lot of screen time on the new season.

The recurring “South Park” character Satan, who previously dated the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, is now in a toxic relationship with Trump.

“You remind me more and more of this other guy I used to date. Like, a lot. Like, you guys are exactly alike,” Satan, who is voiced by Parker, told Trump in the premiere episode.

After the premiere, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers issued a statement calling “South Park” irrelevant.

“This show hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention,” Rogers said. “President Trump has delivered on more promises in just six months than any other president in our country’s history — and no fourth-rate show can derail President Trump’s hot streak.”

Parker reacted to the backlash during an appearance at Comic-Con last month.

“We’re terribly sorry,” he said sarcastically.

“South Park” is available to stream on Paramount+.
