Beaver Brook Association will host author and professor Marguerite Holloway for a free book discussion on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 4 p.m. at its center, 117 Ridge Road. The event, co-sponsored by Balin Books of Nashua, is open to the public.
Holloway’s new book, “Take to the Trees: A Story of Hope, Science, and Self-Discovery in America’s Imperiled Forests,” explores the science of trees, threats facing forests, and her personal journey of learning to climb. A journalism professor, she attended the Women’s Tree Climbing Workshop in Massachusetts, where she gained technical climbing skills while examining the science and symbolism of trees.
In her work, Holloway highlights tree species such as hemlock, oak, and beech, and the accelerating threats of drought, disease, and climate change. She also reflects on her personal connections to trees and family.
The book blends memoir with reportage, sounding the alarm on forest decline while offering optimism about resilience and stewardship.
