Much of June’s traffic was driven by breaking crime news, local event coverage, and community updates. Among the blog’s top-performing articles were stories on shootings in Burien, the opening of SR 509’s first mile in SeaTac, and a shutdown of an unlicensed chicken vendor. Coverage of the Burien Strawberry Festival and Lake to Sound Trail also ranked high in readership.
Direct visits led the way in engagement with 67,800 sessions, followed by 46,300 from organic search. Organic social media also performed strongly, contributing nearly 30,000 sessions in June.
Mobile remained the dominant platform, with nearly 55% of traffic coming from mobile devices, while desktop accounted for 43%.
The site also logged 1.25 million search impressions and 24,137 Google search clicks, a +36% increase over May. Notably, the top keyword searches included “Burien Strawberry Festival,” “Burien news,” and “Grocery Outlet Normandy Park.”
“Statistics like these confirm what we’ve known all along — that our community relies on The B-Town Blog for timely, relevant and professional local journalism,” said Scott Schaefer, Founder/Publisher/Editor of South King Media. “Unlike other opinion-based websites, since 2007 The B-Town Blog has been grounded in award-winning reporting and the ethical standards required by professional organizations like the Society of Professional Journalists.”
The B-Town Blog also maintains a strong social media presence, with 20,739 followers on Facebook and 7,719 on X.com (formerly Twitter). These platforms help us deliver breaking news, local alerts, and community stories directly to our readers in real time.
Award-Winning Local Journalism
In addition to record-breaking traffic, The B-Town Blog and its founder Schaefer earned top honors in the 2024 Society of Professional Journalists’ 2024 “Excellence in Journalism” awards. Schaefer took home First Place in the Video (Soft News) category for a moving feature on a Burien postal carrier’s final day on the job. The award reinforces South King Media’s standing as a trusted source of meaningful, community-driven journalism that elevates local stories with professionalism and heart.
