FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons have begun trimming their 90-man roster in preparation for Tuesday’s 53-man cut deadline.
On Saturday, the Falcons released the following 12 players:
Matthew Cindric, offensive lineman
Ben DiNucci, quarterback
Elijah Dotson, running back
Morgan Fox, defensive lineman
Lamar Jackson, cornerback
Caleb Johnson, inside linebacker
Nikola Kalinic, tight end
Nick Kubitz, inside linebacker
Jesse Matthews, wide receiver
Ronnie Perkins, edge rusher
Quincy Skinner Jr., wide receiver
Josh Thompson, safety
The Falcons also placed offensive lineman Jake Hanson on injured reserve. He does not carry a designation to return, which means he will be out for the entire regular season. Hanson went down with an unknown injury in the fourth quarter of Friday’s preseason finale against the Dallas Cowboys. He signed with the Falcons on Aug. 9, the day after the Falcons’ first preseason game.
The biggest surprise among the group is defensive lineman Morgan Fox, who was part of the Falcons’ initial signing wave in free agency. Fox is a proven veteran with 120 game appearances across eight seasons of work on his resume. Still, unlike some of the other experienced players in Atlanta, Fox played in all three of the Falcons’ preseason games, making just four tackles, one of which was for a loss.
These transactions bring the Falcons’ roster total to 77 players. Another 24 will need to be released by 4 p.m. ET Tuesday.
