A teenager who was in critical condition after he and his father were rescued from the water at Hampton Beach has died, authorities said. HAMPTON, N.H. —
A teenager who was in critical condition after he and his father were rescued from the water at Hampton Beach has died, authorities said.
The two people were a 17-year-old and a 61-year-old man, who was his father, New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol said.

The first 911 call came in at 6:40 p.m. Sunday as a distressed swimmer. The Hampton Beach State Lifeguards were off duty at the time of the incident. They are off duty at 5:30 p.m., but responded back when the call came in, authorities said.
Marine Patrol said, according to witnesses, the teenager was swimming with family members when he was pulled away from shore. His father went into the water in an attempt to rescue him, but became distressed.
Three lifeguards and a firefighter helped with the rescue of the two people, authorities said. Lifesaving measures were immediately begun on the 17-year-old, authorities said. Both were taken to Exeter Hospital, authorities said.
The teenager died at the hospital, New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol said.
The 61-year-old was treated at the scene and is in stable condition, authorities said.
Because of the rescues and the dangerous conditions in the water, the access to the waters and swimming at Hampton Beach has been closed. Authorities will reevaluate the conditions Monday morning.
