A rare win for Uruguay over the United States headlines Sunday action in the FIBA AmeriCup 2025.

Prevailing, 86-85, in the Polideportivo Alexis Arguello at Managua, Nicaragua, both countries matched at 1-1 in Group A of the preliminary round.

Uruguay was in control through the first half but fell into a seven-point deficit during the third quarter. After quickly regaining the lead, narrowly holding down the stretch secured a huge win in a battle for a ticket to the Quarterfinals of the tournament.

Former Tennessee standout Santiago Vescovi poured in a team-high 24 points with 9/14 field goals, including four three-pointers. Joaquin Rodriguez followed with 23 points and a game-high eight rebounds. For the team coached by Stephen Silas, Langston Galloway recorded a game-high 25 points.

With one game left in the round-robin schedule, Brazil leads the group at 2-0, and the Bahamas sit at 0-2. On Tuesday, the United States will be seeking a berth in the next round against Brazil, after Uruguay takes on the Bahamas.
