Devon Walker announced Monday that he’s leaving “Saturday Night Live” after three seasons, two as a featured player and another as a cast member.
The comedian — in an Instagram carousel captioned “me and baby broke up ❤️” — included a note titled “wait..did he quit or did he get fired?” where he shared mixed feelings about the exit.
“Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell,” wrote Walker, whose note did not mention whether he left the show on his own terms.
“But we did what we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a fucked up lil family.”
The post includes a screenshot of an “I’m out 🥳” text as well as a snap of Walker with former “SNL” writers Gary Richardson and Alex English, the latter of whom announced that he was “relieved” of his duties on the show last August.
The group hosted the DAD comedy show at New York City’s Jane Hotel, which Walker referenced in his note.
Earlier in the note, he described jobs in his industry as “a bunch of little marriages.”
“Some of em last for a long time if we’re lucky, but most of them are fleeting,” he added.
“Permanent until they’re not. That’s the deal. You know what it is it when you sign up.”
In a later update to his Instagram story, Walker — who is currently on his “Smiling Thru It All!” standup tour — described the exit as “good news” and said it was simply time to “do something different.”
“Please don’t be hitting me with the ‘im so sorry’ we not on that at ALL. sometimes mom and dad just don’t see things eye to eye,” wrote Walker, who added that he’ll discuss the exit on his “My Favorite Lyrics” podcast soon.
Representatives for “SNL” did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Walker’s departure.

Walker’s post arrived the same day that Celeste Yim, the show’s first writer to identify as nonbinary and first out trans writer, and writer Rosebud Baker announced their departures.
“SNL” creator Lorne Michaels, in an interview shared by Puck on Friday, said there would be a “significant shake-up” at the show with “several” cast members expected to leave.
